tongue in cheek and foot in mouth

My wings are like a shield of steel

He punched her in the head
And she laughed furiously
He held a mirror to her face and she cried
Sometimes he scared her
And not because of any threat of violence or abuse
But because he held a mirror to her face
And made her take a long hard look at wrinkles and flaws
She looked closely at him
She could see things in him
That were also in her
Making her both sad and angry
No men were like him
No women like her
They were two beautiful creatures
She said
Your bullets cannot harm me
My wings are like a shield of steel

  1. why doesn't he take a long hard look into his own face and figure out where he made a mistake. she's done it too many times seeking out flaws in something that was not necessarily a flaw, she is only too much a human, and he is a narcissus looking at his own reflection in the pond.
all those flaws and nasty words are projections of himself into the ripples of water that disperse his own image and then pull it back again.
he is looking for emanation of his own desire in something that does not react, and something that will be hurt again - badly, and then join into the harem.
she deserves better. its not her. its him.
who does he think he is?

  2. Thanks for your comments Tanja
Its about how violent relationship affect you much more than physically and trying to keep a brave face in adversity. About how even though safe when you have escaped, you are still affected. Its about trying to be strong.
    I agree with you.

  3. it becomes the long term affect indeed, and a
crippling experience that takes time to overcome before the ability to move on - if ever. i agree with you about the necessity to gain power to keep a brave face in adversity.
